Stewart Wieck has passed.

My condolences to friends and family of a man who was quickly becoming a friend and mentor. A sad day when you’re mourning the loss of a childhood hero; a titan of my youth who helped shape my writing ability and gaming expertise. Worse, when you mourn a friend, no matter how long you’ve known him. Today will be spent reading his books and playing his games. I hope you guys can take a moment today to remember a man who helped create a legend in tabletop gaming.

Yesterday my brother Stewart Wieck died. He had just finished a light fencing workout and then fell over. All attempts to resuscitate him failed. It’s still unknown what caused it; we’ll know more in a few days. Something catastrophic in his heart perhaps.

He was my brother, my best friend, my business partner since we started White Wolf in high school. He was an incredible human being, full of kindness and empathy, fun and artistic passion.

I was supposed to grow old drinking and gaming with him. Now that will have to wait for heaven or Valhalla or whatever comes next.

And of course, leave it to Stewart to die with a sword in his hand.

No need for flowers, no memorial service has been arranged yet, we’re just taking things a step at a time.

Anyone involved with Stewart’s publishing projects feel free to reach out to me in a few weeks.

Gear Masamune, Green Cape, Britches, Frog’s Belt, Boots, Blue Gloves

Special Qualities
Terrifying Croak Once per hour as a standard action, a boggard can emit a thunderous croak. Any creature not of its subtype must make a successful Will saving throw (DC 10 + 1/2 the user’s character level + the user’s Charisma modifier) or become shaken for 1d4 rounds. A target that successfully saves cannot be affected by the boggard’s terrifying croak for 24 hours. Creatures that are already shaken become frightened for 1d4 rounds instead. This is a sonic, mind-affecting effect.

Special Gear Conversions
Masamune This +4 bastard sword is enchanted bane quality, with the designated foe of magic-users. This only includes arcane magic-users such as wizards and sorcerors, but does not include divine magic users such as clerics.

Green Cape This iconic green cape acts as a cloak of resistance +3.

Frog’s Belt This belt acts as a belt of giant strength +2

Blue Gloves These blue gloves that Frog wears acts as gauntlets of skilled maneuver, which give Frog a +2 to disarm opponents.

Designer’s Notes I’m aware that his AC seems low. I attempt to keep as true to the actual characters as he can, and sometimes in translation, keeping equipment accurate means that, such as in Frog’s case, there is a statistic that doesn’t hit exactly the right cord. It was a hard decision, but I decided that Frog’s strength was much more prescient in Chrono Trigger than his ability to dodge or absorb attacks.

Special Qualities
The Noid Food, especially pizza, is not safe from the predations of The Noid. Any food left out for longer than 30 minutes in the presence of the noid allows the Noid to use this power to cause that food to become completely tasteless and bland, halving all nourishment it may have otherwise given.
Hatred Fresh food makes the Noid incredibly angry. The sight of fresh, hot food causes the Noid to take a wisdom save DC 12 or become obsessed with destroying it.

Questions: I get the rogue part, but why is he a Wizard?
Check out this commercial from the late ’80s and I think it will answer your question!

Thanks for checking out my blog, and remember to avoid the Noid!
